Inspiration Wall

I have been rearranging my studio space and when I was done, I was left with a big blank wall. I knew I wanted to do something there and make it a place for all my "bits" but I wasn't sure how I was going to do that.

This is the wall before - pretty ugly. It was covered by bookshelves before.

I had seen on many blogs about wallpaper, patchwork pages and things glued to the wall, so I thought of a HUGE dictionary I had just got at a flea market. They were large pages, so hopefully it wouldn't take forever to do (!!) and words! What could be more perfect for a book lover?

I chose some random pages and then picked some that had words that meant something to me and started gluing.

And ta - da! Here is the finished - so far - inspiration wall.

I love it! It is so great to have all my things together that inspire or mean something to me.

Here are some close ups.

That big smiley face in the middle is my daughter, Sarah who gives me joy all the time. Other things are cards and sayings I've kept from friends and my own collection. The ring is full of moo cards which I've gathered and punched. Some sequined strawberries and a card from Curly girl. It says ' " I just don't like to see you waste your time on Silly things" HE SAID. "Well then," SHE SAID "Close your eyes." ' That is so me! And she's standing on a stool in a room full of stuff. Enough said.

The board beside it has more things from friends, a vintage key with a heart shape, a photo I took of a pine cone and a great tag that says " A balanced diet is Chocolate in both hands". Oh yeah.

Also, a great card from Papaya, and a collage I bought from somethingtwocrowabout. It spoke to me with its verse of 'Let the beauty we love be what we do - She often stood in left field but the view from there was completely wonderous.'

Up top, is a wonderful print from Kelly Rae. I've had it for a while and I recently framed it in a frame I had and I love all the sayings on it...Quiet the inner critic, Own your talent, Wear red shoes... are some of them. You can see more of her art here.

When I was clearing stuff out, I found this world map. I have always wanted to have a world map on the wall, but they are usually huge. This was a good size - I then put thumbtacks every where I have been - I need to get to the far east soon!

This is the adjoining wall - the top piece of wood is off of an old dresser that I got for 5 bucks at an auction, the frame below from a great discount store up here that says DREAM BIG and an old blackboard that I got at a yard sale. I try to put different quotes on there to remind me.

Some of the pages I picked were for the words. I then put them in place that I could see them and outlined them in marker. I'm still debating whether to write on there the bigger words. Once I do, there is no going back! The words I have are Create, Play, Live, Handiwork, Illustrate,Design, Transform and ...

Imagine.

Things we all need to do.

Tell me what you think! ;)

I found your blog on Donna Downey's. I must say, I really like the book pages wall. I wasn't sure at first that it would go with the paneled wall, but it looks terrific! Nice work!
